I’ve been thinking a lot about “tolerance” lately–and what it truly means to be tolerance.
Tolerance is the freedom to criticize all ideas, ideologies, religions, system etc, WHILE loving those who hold ideals and values that are different than ours.
In Episode 135 Dahlia Rahaimy and I talk about power of disagreement and how you can maintain relationships and love for one another without compromising on your values.
This conversation got me thinking about “tolerance” and how we need the capacity to think critically about the implications of ideas while engaging in vulnerable relationship with those we hold disagreements with.
As I pondered tolerance I thought of my conversation with Brandon Polk back in E022 where he also gives a similar definition of tolerance, the importances to being free to dissect ideas, with the emphasis on not judging the individual (rather judging ideas) and engaging in relationship with people who are not like us.
Listen to this important mash up that if applied will open many doors for you to understand the world more clearly while freeing to think for yourself without falling into tribalism or identity politics or ostracizing the “other”.
