In all the years of the Tour-de-France, France had never won their nation’s own competition. That is, not until 2010, when the French cycling team hired a man named Dave Brailsford to coach them.
Cue the Rocky soundtrack over a montage of Brailsford yelling and encouraging his team to train harder, to give it 110 percent. I can imagine them working out in the pouring rain, on the verge of giving up, when by some supernatural force, they find one last ounce of energy to push through to the end.
Wrong. Insert sound of screeching soundtrack and tangling film here.
Instead, he suggested that they look at every component of bike racing and try to improve it by one percent. That’s it, a boring one percent.
